Meet Your Instructor
I'm Jules Horne, and I've been a writer ever since I got a pencil in my hand.
I started writing fiction at primary school in Scotland, fast forward and I've written stories, spoken word, scripts, radio news and features, and had stories and radio dramas broadcast on BBC Radio.
I've made a creative career out of writing, whether my own publishing projects, commissions, or commercial creative, including copywriting, audio tours, websites, chocolate descriptions (!), and over 13 years of teaching Creative Writing students at undergraduate and MA level with The Open University.
And guess the #1 thing I've learned throughout this entire writing and teaching journey! Most aspiring authors learn by osmosis, and many write an entire novel draft before getting any feedback.
The expectation seems to be that reading loads of books will teach you solid writing craft. But from my 13 years' teaching experience, I've learned that authors can improve their writing far more quickly and effectively through close-reading, and by gathering solid techniques from established authors.
Deliberate practice is an amazing tool for learning writing techniques, yet it's not widely used by authors. That's what inspired me to launch Method-Writing.com, and create affordable online courses, with the aim of helping authors like you to quickly develop your craft skills to a new level, whatever your genre, stage, style or favourite writers.
